Poll shows those who have faith are happier - A Gallup Poll released on October 13, 2000 analyzed those who responded to the question: "Generally speaking, how happy would you say you are - very happy, happy, fairly happy, or not too happy?"  The study by the New Jersey organization has a detailed breakdown of the various groups and their level of happiness.  It is interesting that the top five (5) categories of those who said they are "Very Happy" are in this order: Married women, those who think that the economy is excellent, those who read the Bible weekly and/or daily, those who are married, and finally those who attend Church on regular basis.  (There will be a brief article in a future posting.)  Those who want more information immediately may go to <http://www.gallup.com/poll/releases/pr001013.asp>

A key decision: To marry or to cohabitate? - Today's young people face a tough decision: To marry or to cohabitate?  Today's life style changes and conveniences give unprecedented freedom and choices for the young.  But are these cohabitating relationships fulfilling?  What gives rise to them and what is common about the young people who choose this way of life?  Why do some see the children as the biggest losers when such relationships fall apart?  Here is a review of the special program aired on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).  (Details at 'A Key Decision' page.)

A revised view of Divorce's effects on children - A well known psychologist and best selling author Judith Wallerstein has completed a study that looks at the long term effect of divorce upon the children whose parents had divorced in the 1970's.  Wallerstein's study shows that these children, today in their late twenties to early forties grew up too early and had a sense that they lost their childhood.  In addition, her study revealed that divorce is not just a momentary or temporary crisis.  Rather, the effect carries into the children and affects their ability to choose incompatible partners themselves.  (There will be a short review in a future of this posting.)  The book is The Unexpected Legacy of Divorce: A 25 Year Landmark Study (Hyperion, $24.95).
