Kariagner (Proverbs)
By Hovannes Toumanian (1869-1923)
Translated By Aida Sultanyan
Drunk from life I passed
Here goes another day
You are running toward death
Holding death responsible

Who knows where we landed?
For how many days are we guests?
When love and heart do not exist'
We fell in fire, we fell in water.

I have been burned from so many hands,
Been burned and turned into fire.
Fire in turn gave light,
By giving light I am finished.

How much pain have I seen,
Persecution and crush I have seen.
I lost, forgave and loved,
I have seen the bad, good.

The stronghold is left with us,
The victory remains with us.
All of them disappeared
Now comes our turn.

Two tombs next to each other,
Forever silent
And thinking
What did they take from this world?

O greedy man, O unsatisfied man, your mind is long but your life short.
How many people passed like you, numerous before you.
What did they take from life? What are you going to take with you?
Move peaceful; move happy, the journey is two days long.

Every time you give when something you lose,
Every time I look at how much more still remains,
I am astonished, O giver, how much you have given to me,
How much more I have to give you, so that we can join again?

In my baptism, the sky, the time, the sun, were holy torches,
The rainbow became day, everyone's love pool.
The mountain became my Godfather, the mist became anointing oil
My Baptizer became He who decided for me to be a poet.

A BEAUTIFUL REFLECTION

I asked God to take away my habit.
    God said, No.
It is not for me to take away,
but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child
    whole.
    God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only
    temporary

I asked God to grant me patience.
    God said, No.
    Patience is a byproduct of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
    God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
    God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
    God said, No.
You must grow on your own! ,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy
    life.
    God said, No.
I will give you life, so that you may enjoy
  all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as
  He loves me.
God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

Here is a God sent explanation!!!

A little boy is telling his Grandma how everything is going wrong.
School, family problems, severe health problems, etc.  Meanwhile,
Grandma is baking a cake.  She asks her grandson if he would like a
snack, which, of course, he does.  "Here, have some cooking oil."

   "Yuck" says the boy.

"How about a couple raw eggs?"

   "Gross, Grandma!"

"Would you like some flour then?  Or maybe baking soda?"

   "Grandma, those are all yucky!"

To which Grandma replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by
themselves.  But when they are put together in the right way, they
   make a wonderfully delicious cake!"
