Biblical Verses About Love

The Lord reproves him whom he loves. [Proverbs 3:12]

Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses. [Proverbs 10:12]

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in

him should not parish but have eternal life. [John 3:16]

If you love me you will keep my commandments. [John 14:15]

This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has

no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. [John 15:13]

You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I

say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you be sons

of your Father who is in heaven. . . . For if you love those who love you, what reward

have you? [Gospel according to St. Matthew 5:43]

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your

mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love

your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend the law and the

prophets. [Gospel according to St. Matthew 22:37]

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my

commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s

commandments and abide in His love. [Gospel according to St. John 15:9]

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a

clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all

knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am

nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not

love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does

not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but

rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all

things.

Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease as for

knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect; but when the perfect

comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I reasoned

like a child, I thought like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For

now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall

understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these

three; but the greatest of these is love. [The First Letter of St. Paul to Corinthians 13:1-13]

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man has ever seen God;

if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. [First Letter of St. John 4:11-12]

God is Love!

[First Letter of St. John 4:8]
