Seminar: Armenian Church and Family

“Church and Family in the Armenian Community” is a Seminar that will be presented on Saturday April 9, 2005 from 9 AM to 12 Noon. This seminar is presented jointly by the Armenian Apostolic Church of Riverside and Armenian Apostolic Church of La Verne, both parishes of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in North America, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate. During the Seminar, ways will be presented in which the Church Sacraments, the Bible, prayer, and a strong faithful community help strengthen the Armenian person and family through every stage of life. His Holiness Khrimian Hairik of Blessed Memory wrote that the spiritual roots of a person begins in the family, and is strengthened and expanded within the Church as the person becomes older. This view of Khrimian Hairik continues to be true today, and this Seminar will show how they apply in the multicultural setting of the Armenian community in Southern California. The Seminar guide, Rev. Dr. Stépanos Dingilian, will present in Armenian and English insights into ways that the Christian Way of Life strengthens the personal as well as the family life from infancy to youth, to adulthood and parenting, and beyond. Rev. Dr. Stépanos has been publishing a periodical on this subject matter for the past 10 years, and has written books on this topic, which those attending the Seminar will receive free of charge. The opportunity will also be given for those present to share their views on this topic and find some answers to questions they may have.

The Seminar is free of charge. It will take place at the St. Maurice Coptic Orthodox Church at 3803 West Mission Boulevard, Pomona, CA, 91766. The Church where the Seminar will be held is conveniently located off of the 57 Freeway at the Temple Avenue exit between the Interstate I-10 San Bernardino Freeway, and the 60 Pomona Freeway. There is a large cross at the Church that can be easily seen from the 57 Freeway. Since those attending will receive books, periodicals, and other insightful information, it will be helpful to call ahead of time so the information will be ready for them. The program co-chairpersons are Kevork and Aida Sultanyan, Church members and parents of college students themselves, and they can be reached at (858) 344-0328 or at sultanyan@hotmail.com. Further information and directions for this Saturday, April 9 Seminar can be found at www.hopeforfamily.org, the website established by Rev. Dr. Stépanos that addresses spiritual issues within the Armenian community.
