Feast
of the Holy Cross
Gospel of St. Mark 7:32-35
September 9, 2007
And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they besought him to lay his hand upon him.
And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, "Eph'phatha," that is, "Be opened."
And
his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.
Spiritual Reflection Question:
If your faith in Christ helped you express more "plainly" that which means a great deal to you, what would you say and to whom? What would you do? What would you want your family and community do?
NEW! Spiritual Reflection by a Young Professional:
If I was suddenly able to express myself freely, I would want to make clear to those I love that I want to accept them simply for who they are. Although life's troubles can be difficult to see beyond, I would want to be a resource; to be able to listen to their freedom of expression, just as Christ allows us to express ourselves in order to be free. There are people surrounding us everyday who cannot hear or speak. When I sit back and take a good look at it, do I offer an environment that will help them hear and speak clearly?
