If Only I Had Known

If only I had known that life was so much fun,

If I had known that everything did not have to be perfect,

If I had known that my parents were so wise,

If only I had known that people were so understanding,

            Then I would not have been so stressed out.

If only I had known that I really did not know everything,

If I knew that I did not have to be perfect,

If I knew that I did not have to go to extremes,

If only I had known that there was balance in life,

            Then I would not have been so confused.

If only I had known that everyone else was as insecure as I was,

If I knew that I was insecure because I was seeing new experiencing,

If I knew that insecurity came with discovering new relationships,

If only I had known that people who boasted about themselves were even more insecure than I,

            Then I would not have built emotional walls around me.
